I do think the word Hero might be thrown around to much. While he is truly a patriot in every sense of the word... hero? I don't know. Should he be idolized as a hero? I don't know, but what I do know is that the man should be paid with the utmost respect for the actions he took. He took a road few of us would travel, passing up money, easy life, and being with his new wife. However, his actions, while very patriotic, and there is no denying that, heroic? I am still on the fence on this one.
Definitely heroic. I can see why the families of other service men/women killed would be upset that he is getting so much attention while their own son/daughter was killed and has received no such publicity. But he made some damn tough choices and gave up a lot to serve. Yes, without a doubt that makes him a hero. If he isn't a hero I don't know what a hero is.
The asshole who wrote the article should have his teeth knocked out. Among other comments he opposed US action in Afghanistan in response to the 9/11 attacks. If he is a foreigner getting a free ride in the US (no doubt he is) the son of a bitch should be deported. But no, he'll probably be offered his own talk show...

Now I don't want anyone thinking I am a bad guy on this issue. I have the utmost respect for this person, but when it comes to the term hero, I just disagree. A patriot, in every sense of the word that is what he is, but a hero? I just think that word gets thrown around to much and quite frankly, I think it has lost all value. However, Patriot has not, and when it comes to that word, Pat Tillman is the name I would represent with patriot.

I think Pat Tillman has become a face for all the soldiers that lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanestan. I think that when they do the moments of silence and tributes to him, it should be for all the soldiers, but since he is a more known person he kind of becomes the face of those who have lost their lives in battle.
Maybe selfless is a better word than hero but what he did and what he gave us is amazing. I think it is Cpl Tillman's character than makes him a cut above. Does that make him a hero?? It's debatable. But he epitomizes all the best that America can offer in one of her citizens.
So when that little fucktard Rene from UMass spouts the kind of privledged, naive, isolated crapola he did, I can see why people coming to Tillman's defense call him a hero.
Oh, and I hope that little fuckstick reaps the just rewards of the shitstorm he's stirred up.

It's all relative. In terms of service, Pat Tillman is no more or less heroic than any other man or woman who has died while serving their country, i.e. they're all heroic (for the most part). At the same time, the veterans who survived aren't any less heroic, either.
Now, compared to the world of pro football....Pat Tillman epitomized commitment, honor, discipline more than probably every other NFL player combined. You could take every Miami Hurricane and Florida State Seminole who has stepped onto the field over the past 20 years, add their collective souls together, and you might get 1/10th of the man Pat Tillman was. And lest you think I'm being racist in that comment, Jeremy Shockey is the first Hurricane that came to mind when I made that comment (and I exempt Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson from that, 'cause I think the Rock is the Great One)
